THE National Gallery is offering a course in interior design as part of its Continuing Education programme. The eight-week course, which takes place at Miss Lassie’s duplex in South Sound Road is nearly finished now, but it is anticipated that the course will be repeated, starting in September.

The course, facilitated by instructor Lisa Ebanks, is being held every Tuesday evening and tells students how to understand floor plans and how to select fabric and furnishings for floors and walls by providing a basic understanding of interior design principles. Each week focuses on a different aspect of design and decorating.

During the course, students are encouraged to pick one particular room in their home to work on as a ‘project,’ to redesign or redecorate, and to use the final session at the end of the eight weeks to present the result of their design, by pasting photographs of their transformed room onto a storyboard.

The first session covered the six principles of interior design, which are: Colour, texture, line, shape, form, and space.

On the evening Cayman Net News visited the group, the topic was kitchen design, and began by covering important issues such as ergonomics- or how comfortable a particular environment makes you feel.
